When I first played Dark Souls, I was very confused about where to go and what to do, but I did not give up and kept on pushing through. I was shocked when I found myself at the beginning of the game again in the Undead Asylum, knowing that I had to complete the game again to do certain things. Related: Why do enemies respawn in DSR?
Some of those items help you cure poison, while others break your curses. It does not really matter what the item is specifically, as long as it helps you get to your destination. So the best thing to do is to farm those souls, and stock up on everything you possibly can so you are ready for your next playthrough. As you get closer, a bird named Snuggly starts speaking to you.
It does not seem like you can do much there, but it is quite the opposite. When you place a specific item in the nest, and return to menu, and then return to your game, you will find a different item in the nest. Items like Twinkling Titanite and special rings can be obtained through this trading process, but the only downside is that you can only trade for a specific item once.
But in the end, it is worth the time because of all the good materials and valuables you get from it. I know it sounds harsh, but killing the different Firekeepers for their souls, benefits you in a huge way. If all are killed, they will each drop a Firekeeper soul, of which you can upgrade your estus flask level to get more health from each flask. Keep in mind that when you kill them, you cannot sit at their corresponding bonfire or warp away from them.
There are only 7 Firekeeper souls in each playthrough, but most likely you will use one to revive Anastacia once Knight Lautrec kills her. The Artorias of the Abyss probably has some of the best bosses in the entire game and is definitely worth the play.
The way to start the DLC is to go to the Darkroot Basin, and kill the hydra that is in the large body of water. You will receive a broken pendant, in which a golden golem will spawn in a cave near where you killed the hydra.

In Dark Souls 2, lighting a bonfire means you can now warp there. For Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2, lighting a bonfire is a separate action than resting at it because you cannot rest when there are phantoms in your world.
The Lordvessel will allow the player to warp between bonfires, just by possessing it. Most bonfires can be warped from, but only a few can be warped to. The warp locations must also be rested at to be made available. The answer: No. The nearest bonfire to crystal cave is the one you undoubtedly pass as you enter the library that a mimic was in and go down the stairs you pulled a lever to reveal, where you then head outside and make your way to the entrance of crystal caves.
All kindled bonfires carry over to the new game, including if you had rite of the kindling and got them to Extinguished bonfires can still be warped to. Pulled this from another post of mine. The Bonfires with a Fire Keeper present are kindled by default, providing 10 flasks.
After acquiring the Rite of Kindling the bonfires can be kindled to 15 and then to 20 Estus uses. Not only that, but you will find that you can only travel to specific bonfires, and not all of them.
