Where can you find icebergs

We obviously went kayaking and succesfully failed to flip around one of the icebergs with permission of our guide! We know we should go to the real Arctics and Antarctics one day… to see Spitsbergen, Greenland, Antarctica… all those places that have more icebergs than you can imagine.

Maybe in the future, never say never! Want to read more? Brilliant post. I can only believe how beautiful icebergs would be. New Zealand is great for kayaking, although one of our trips got canceled because of the poor weather.

Wow, these are stunning! We are so intrigued by glaciers and icebergs and really want to visit Antarctica and Greenland, but as you said, they are too expensive right now! I love this list—so many great suggestions to get an arctic fix.

What specific boat tour or boat captain did you use in Newfoundland? Would love to recreate a similar experience to the one you had, so any tips would be appreciated!

Thank you. I guess that most are not willing to take that risk, maybe just find a crazy fisherman? Good luck! Your email address will not be published. It fluctuates between negative and positive phases. Conditions associated with the negative phase of the NAO are unfavorable to the movement of icebergs toward the shipping lanes.

The characteristic features of this phase include persistent onshore winds along the Labrador coast during the winter. This brings relatively warm maritime air to Labrador. The resulting lack of sea ice exposes icebergs to wave-induced deterioration, and the onshore wind moves them toward the shallower waters near the coast, where they can run aground or become trapped in bays. The positive NAO phase, on the other hand, is characterized by strong and persistent northwest winds along the Labrador coast during the winter.

These winds bring cold air and extensive sea ice cover, which protects the icebergs during the last part of their journey south, a journey aided by the long-shore wind. The inter-annual variability in the western North Atlantic iceberg counts remains impressive and difficult to understand and predict. The number of icebergs found in the North Atlantic Ocean changes from year to year.
